In 1968, Hannah Weiner composed poems from encoded phrases in the International Code of Maritime Signals. She then collaborated with the Coast Guard to use semaphore flag signaling, signal lamps, and Morse code to transmit the works across the park.
No known images or footage of those performances have survived.
So on November 25th, 2019, I went with some friends into the park to try to get a sense of what it must have looked and felt like.
