The production's first promo for 'Eu vos liberto', shot on location (in natural daylight), where the performance was staged - a disused warehouse in the red light district of Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Eu vos liberto (‘I set you free’) is inspired by Euripides’ tragedy 'Hippolytus'.
The archetypical play examines passion, sexual desire and its destructive powers; fear of the female and misogynistic contempt. The characters, despite their apparent differences, are aspects of the same.
In this production, Zikzira examines the play’s hidden mechanisms and its subtler qualities of transcendence. The characters are discarnate; dream-like, in state of limbo, they are etheric imprints of their carnal counterparts and bound to their choices.
‘Eu vos liberto’ featured an international cast and a soundtrack created by pioneering producer The Hafler Trio, complemented by music composed and performed live by soprano Rodrigo Firpi. The lighting design was devised by Brazil’s highly acclaimed and award-winning lighting designer, Guilherme Bonfanti; the set design was created by award-wining fine artist, Orlando Castanõ.
The production was directed by Zikzira's Artistic Director Andre Semenza and co-directed and choreographed by Fernanda Lippi.
In the cast: Macarena Campbell, Rodrigo Firpi, Sung-hwa Kim and Marçal Costa.
