With 2020 fast approaching, I decided in the summer to make the most ambitious film edit I’ve attempted yet. To sum up an entire decade of film is so daunting, but I was up to the challenge. It proved to be the most effort I’ve ever poured into a video (I lost track after 100 hours of work, and I fried my computer’s motherboard back in September just from editing.) But also the most rewarding: this is definitely my favorite edit to date. I always set my own standards so high that I have to rise to the occasion, but it makes the outcome that much better. For many editors, a video like this is easier for them to churn out. It might be shorter, they probably make it faster. But editing is such a vital part of who I am now, making videos this extensive is part of my DNA. Without it (the last few months when I had no computer to edit on, for example) I found that I’m somewhat lost. Relieved that I was able to save this project and finish it for us all to see. I’m extremely proud of this one, and I hope you enjoy it as well.
Thank you to Stephanie for saving the contents of my hard drive in LA last month, and saving this video. This is because of you. Literally.
Note: 2019 in Film is still in the planning stages, but I’m hoping to have something ready by January or February at the latest. Making that yearly video is a hard habit to break
