DREAM CIRCUS is a traveling public art project based on the visualization of dreams and dream imagery.
What do you dream?
What do factory workers dream of?
And, what do people who live in center city dream of? And, the ones who live in the suburbs? And the clients of a hotel? What do children dream of?
Do we have more dreams or nightmares?
Dream Circus collects recurring images from night dreams of the inhabitants of a given area, city, or social group.
All images collected are reinterpreted through drawing, and posted in a public space.
The idea is to “liberate” the dreams in the city by creating a blended stream, a ‘mise-en-scène’ of the unconscious, a Circus of Dreams.
DREAM CIRCUS moves in search of dreams toward two different directions:
a. DREAM CIRCUS TOUR – The Circus is in town.
Having been shown at Seminaria Festival Maranola (Artist in Residence, July-August 2011) and Torino (Paratissima Festival, November 2011), The Circus will move to Amsterdam (January- May 2012) and many other cities. Each time it arrives in a new place, The Circus collects the dreams of the inhabitants and turns them into a site specific installation. But the Circus, by definition, is itinerant. The caravan of dreams moves, travels, discovers new places, new dreams. Each time bringing with it something of the place where it was.
b. DREAM CIRCUS / WANDERING DREAMS
Dreams are collected from people The Circus meets around the world and regularly published on this website.
