'Orange Rumba' (Guy Begbie 2012) is a video short bookwork activation.
The appropriated and altered law book 'Statutory Instruments' (published by authority) has had its pages cut and folded out to accommodate a bespoke pyrotechnic orange smoke flare made by Noah Begbie Crewe. Vent holes have been punched through the book and a fuse channel cut through the pages from the fore edge to a void in the centre of the book.
Guy Begbie ignites and rotates with the burning book, filming with a 'Go Pro HD Hero' video camera worn on his head. Rollo Begbie Crewe and Charlotte Crewe also document the book activation with video and stills cameras. Orange Rumba has been edited by Rollo Begbie Crewe in collaboration with Guy Begbie.
The orange dye and residue from the smoke flare burn, leaves a premeditated drawing in the form of a variety of marks and colour on the cover and page surfaces of the altered book.
The first public screening of this film, was given at ‘The Artists' Book Market’ at BALTIC, Newcastle, UK
(December 2014) in the cinema space.
