October Gallery, London, Tuesday, 31st January, 2012.
Drawing on themes and images from the exhibition he curated at the Wellcome Gallery in November 2010, Mike surveys humanity's engagement with psychoactive plants and chemicals and explores why 'drugs' have developed such a controversial image in the modern West.
Mike Jay is an author and curator who has written widely on the history and culture of drugs. His books include Emperors of Dreams: drugs in the nineteenth century, The Atmosphere of Heaven (on the discovery of nitrous oxide) and the illustrated cultural history, High Society.
