(dis)order (2011) was written as a sort of personal experiment. Prior to this, I had no experience writing in the minimalist style, which was something I wanted to change. Although the piece involves plenty of repetition, I found it incredibly difficult and time-consuming to write, as I struggled to balance my old compositional leanings with a style vastly different and unfamiliar. Simultaneously, I wanted to incorporate elements of indeterminacy and player choice that contrast with the otherwise rigid repetition of phrases. The piece, then, is a (sometimes violent) dialogue between the fully structured elements and their counterparts left to chance. (dis)order was written for my friends, the TV Buddha Ensemble.
