Photographer Sarah McColgan and Makeup artist Victor Henao pair up for a vibrant stop motion film that examines the limits of traditional beauty photography. This piece comes as part of an on going personal project in which the duo continually explore the idea of using human faces in place of the traditional artist canvas. For this project, McColgan captured approximately 1400 still photos over the course of an 8 hour period, while Henao assembled a meticulous visual narrative, layer by layer, using only makeup as his medium. McColgan explains, "The title, 'Chromogenic' is a nod to traditional C-41 and RA-4 film processing. Chromogenic film or paper has multiple layers of emulsion which when combined with chemicals produce certain dyes that create images." Of the work Henao says, "More than anything the piece is supposed to take you on a conceptual journey that explores ever changing layers of color, shape, sound and texture." McColgan adds, "It is ultimately an open ended conversation between artist, photographer, model and viewer, meant to be interpreted how each person individually sees it."
