In the 8th episode of the We Are Embedded video series, Gabor interview Mark Coleran, former Design Director at Bonfire Labs. Mark has since moved to Platfora, designing interfaces to explore and visualize large data sets in new ways. Mark shares his experience designing and creating fantasy user interfaces (FUI) for films, and discusses the evolution of user interface design.
With almost 20 years of design experience, Mark has worked in a wide range of disciplines from print graphics to motion design and visual effect. His work in motion graphics lead him to specialize in the design and creation of fantasy user interfaces for films such as The Bourne Ultimatum, Tomb Raider and The Island, just to name a few.
Mark discusses the challenges he faced transitioning from creating fantasy interfaces to real interfaces, including the growing importance of incorporating personalization into user interface design. He continues by sharing some insightful predictions of what the future holds in this space, including his thoughts on the evolution of natural user interfaces.
