Jersey has some of the highest tides in the world.
This short video shows how quickly the ocean rises during the third hour of the flood tide. This was filmed at Seymour Tower on 10 March 2012.
The actual low water was just 0.2m above datum (zero benchmark). This was 30cm lower than predicted as a result of high pressure over Jersey (1036mb instead of the average of 1014mb) . The high tide was 11.66m.
This is a vertical rise (or range) of 11.46m which has to rise in just 5 hours 36 minutes for low to high water.
