A personal, historic / industrial documentary with elements of a thriller dealing
with our addiction to sugar and sweet life.
The director, diagnosed with pregnancy diabetes, investigates fatal effects of a hundred year’s consumption of the sweet white powder on an individual and society and discovers the wide-ranging and massive impact the white powder has had throughout history to the present day.
If we are a large society of sugar users, how does this addiction demonstrate itself in the way our society functions? What does culture saturated with sugar actually look like? To what extent has the "sweet life" been a driving force of our civilization? What has the fall of Persia in common with transfer of millions of slaves over the ocean, lost Napoleonic Wars, diseases of American veterans, today´s famines and golden Haribo Gummy Bears?
