“Tom Brady Should Retire”
(Subtitle: Smile, Our God is a Consuming Fire!) – Deuteronomy 4:15-31
Sandy Koufax was the greatest left-handed pitcher of all time. He retired when he was 30. Bobby Jones was the greatest amateur golfer who ever lived, he retired from playing in Major golf tournaments (after he had won them all!) at the age of 28. Pat Tillman beats them all. In my book he was one of the greatest Americans who ever lived. He played football for the Arizona Cardinals. At the time he was making millions of dollars, he retired from football at the age of 25 to go and serve his country after 9/11.
I don’t really know if Tom Brady should retire. He is the greatest QB of all time. He is 42 and I’ve heard that he wants to play 5 more years. He reminds me of King David, who in 2 Samuel 21 became weak and exhausted while they were in the thick of battle, where Abishai his nephew stepped in to rescue him from a giant who desperately wanted to snuff out the light of Israel.
Moses never wanted to retire either, until God stepped in and mandated that he pass the torch to Joshua. I’ve never understood why the Lord gave him so much grief over striking the rock instead of speaking to it…until now. That’s what I want us to look into today.
Multiplied Blessings, Randy & Pam
