These are tough times. The intrinsic value of Thanks has been drastically transformed over time, losing prestige and shedding it’s genuine past for a generic future. This increase of our willingness to express trivial gratitude has left the traditional Thanks meaningless, and along with it, the true value of our gratitude is lost. The act of showing appreciation has no more weight than it does impact. It is a careless behavior. A social norm. An empty automatic response to everything from holding the door to receiving your order.
This is the Thanking Crisis.
Restoration calls, and not for changes in attitude alone. Society is begging for action now. It is time for us to restore the value of Thanks, to inject society with a heavy dose of meaningful appreciation, and to transform the once carelessly thrown about form of gratitude into a new type of social currency.
Together, let us pledge to build a better Thanks.
