"Escapes & Reversals" wrestles with behaviors and technologies that negotiate visibility and access in times of increasing surveillance, targeted advertising, drone warfare, and self-branding through social media.
This excerpt begins 40 minutes into the hour-long performance. A lone performer signals live, in sync with his recorded self, which is projected to fill the upstage wall behind him. He seems to confront a giant threat that can’t be readily identified. The projected video
features choreography for a drone camera, which references footage of U.S. drone strikes in Afghanistan, where thermally illuminated human targets crouch down to try to hide their cross-haired bodies before being shot.
