RON HAVIV, co-founder of the famous VII Photo Agency, talks to JAMIE WELLFORD, Senior Photo Editor at Newsweek, about preparing for the expected and the unexpected when traveling internationally to cover major news events in stills and video. The discussion will offer practical guidance and inspirational advice on getting into the field and back while managing the deadlines and multimedia requirements of modern reporting. Ron and Jamie will discuss how to plan for success and how to cope when the plans go wrong, with suggestions and anecdotes from two seasoned professionals.
Ron Haviv has produced images concerning human rights since the end of the Cold War. He is currently working for both print and television with video and stills. His mixed media work has appeared on PBS’s Need to Know and Frontline as well as NBC Nightly News and ABC World News Tonight. Ron has been the central character in three documentary films and has spoken about his work in the media including CNN, GMA and The Charlie Rose Show.
Jamie Wellford has been the International Photo Editor at Newsweek Magazine since 2000. Previously he worked at Time, New York Daily News and with Gamma-Liason, Black Star, and Sipa Press, in between jaunts around the globe pursuing twin passions of photography and travel. He studied Urdu in Pakistan in 1985-86 through the University of California at Berkley.
