Aaron Dodd, 1948-2010: Acclaimed tuba player
Street performer was once a member of the 8 Bold Souls jazz ensemble
June 19, 2010|By William Lee, Tribune reporter
As if tuba player Aaron Dodd hadn't faced enough personal setbacks in a made-for-Hollywood life, the former studio musician-turned-street performer was devastated when a doctor told him that his lungs were too diseased for him to play his beloved instrument again.
Diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which makes it difficult to breathe, Mr. Dodd tried playing anyway for as long as his stricken lungs allowed.
Mr. Dodd — once a member of the acclaimed 8 Bold Souls jazz ensemble — died Thursday, June 17, of complications related to his illness at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, his family said. He was 62.
