One of the earliest cities of Mesoamerica, Monte Alban
was a major centre of Zapotec civilization for almost a
thousand years. Founded around 500 B.C., the descendants
of o this culture continue to live in this region, along with
other indigenous peoples such as the Mixtecs, the
Mazatecos, and the Mixe.
This short film overlays faces of the descendants of these
groups shot in the central square of Oaxaca which help to
bring the ruins of this once mighty culture come to live.
