WINNER! 2013 New Orleans Film Festival - Jury Prize for Best Narrative Feature
"The feature debut by Connor Hurley is easy-going and comfortingly familiar, but with a delightful mean streak--kind of like your stoner best friend from high school. The script by Ashley Pishock (who also stars as Amy) is a standout, graced with a nonchalant wit and charm to spare."
-Jonathan Kiernan, New Orleans Film Festival
“Skook” transcends the genre’s clichés by offering a complex heroine and looking in a very human way at what and why we allow ourselves to forgive." - Lou Harry, Indianapolis Business Journal
Winter, 2011: Amy, a New York fashion student, is spending her holidays stranded at home in Schuylkill County (known to locals as "Skook") after her classroom-radical boyfriend ditches her to help the occupy Wall Street movement. While reuniting with her hometown friends, meeting her blue-collar dad's new paramour, and scoring weed off her babysitting clients, she begins a hesitant rapprochement with Jordan, the ex-cool-kid who haunted her chequered high school past. Caught off-guard by the excitement of a new love so removed from her life in the city, Amy learns that perhaps her inner Skook isn't as dead as she'd hoped.
