“Oscar” (1985) was a BBC three part drama starring Michael Gambon in the title role, brilliantly portraying the dandy, aesthete, wit and playwright, ultimately disgraced through his alleged homosexual relationship with Lord Alfred Douglas. The title sequence I designed around restaging famous contemporary photographic portraits of the real life protagonists using the actors in role, linked by the device of the peacock feather, itself a symbol of fragile male beauty and a harbinger of ill fortune.
