The following piece is teaser trailer I edited for an upcoming film written by an amazing actor by the name of Andy Davoli. It wasn't the one he ultimately chose however. The music is Frederic Chopin's 'Romance Larghetto', Second Movement from Piano Concerto No. 1 in E Minor, Opus 11. I love how the man and woman here express so much through their eyes. Humans love eye contact - its friendly, and holding a gaze a bit longer than normal communicates interest, but stare too long and it becomes aggressive. Slowly blinking breaks up an aggressive stare. Cats engage in "blink kissing" (blinking in a slow and deliberate manner) to communicate "I am not threatening you, you can relax". The other cat often blinks in response and then acts in a self conscious way, perhaps fluffing itself up or grooming. I was conscious of this when I edited and made sure to capture the subtleties of nonverbal communication, and timed my cuts to emulate and the 'blink kiss'. You get the idea.
