Play Nicely was asked by Rubberductions on behalf of Paramount Pictures in 2009 to create visual effects for G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra, a film scheduled for release that year. It was an opportunity to have some real VFX fun.
We were tasked with texturing, rigging and animating the original model of the Accelerator Suit worn by operatives in the film. The brief was to deliver a viral video of the suit being tested in preparation for use by characters in the film and it was decided to demonstrate it being used for recreation purposes on a military base.
This scene required us to film a skateboarder on a ramp and then map the Accelerator Suit onto it. Then, we removed the original skateboarder using a rotoscope technique and added height to the 3D version.
See the helicopter? Not our 3D skills but an actual helicopter.
