In October 2019 an event called the Dutch Design Week will be held in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
The Dutch Design Week is the biggest design event in Northern Europe, presenting works and ideas of more than 2600 designers to more than 350.000 visitors from all over the world.
My name is Dion Soethoudt. I’m a Dutch designer but from a mixed background.
Through design, I dare to confront our collective frictions and tickle our most vulnerable fears.
I focus on the mundane of everyday life.
During the DDW I’ll be presenting a performance where two autonomous entities spend nine days confined in a room of solitude.
Just me and an autonomous robot, who is capable of exploring and defining its surroundings.
What will we do?
How do we interact?
Can we learn from each other?
As an inquiry into my relationship with this new autonomous life,
I introduce to you my project called: I Like You And You Like I
Inspired by Joseph Beuys’ 1974 project in New York.
A bit of a tribute (xylophone - C note)
The performance will take place in the Temporary Art Center, one of the key locations during the DDW.
The exhibition space for the performance is a hexagon shaped room of 44m2.
No windows and only one doors.
The door will stay closed for the entire duration of the performance and will be equipped with a one-way mirrors which creates a boundary between me and the outside world.
To regulate my sleep-wake cycle, we will use color temperature controlled lighting.
Also will the project be broadcasted in a 24h livestream on instagram, our website, on the DDW-cars and more.
I Like You And You Like I, an inquiry into artificial intelligence, human intelligence, autonomous thinking and the building of relationships.
I just want to know what happens.
