Makrigialos (official spelling: Makry-Gialos), on the south east coast of Crete, is free from mass tourism and noisy crowds, secluded in beautiful mountains, with extensive sandy beaches overlooking the southern Mediterranean Sea.
The area is an excellent example of one of the few places in Europe where you can find majestic mountains close to the sea, within a few kilometers of wonderful sandy beaches.
The region is an outstanding example of Cretan beauty and hospitality. It offers all the amenities of modern life, but retains the feel of traditional Cretan village life, and embraces visitors with a welcome that is unmatched in Europe.
Makrigialos has one of the best climates in Europe, with around 325 days of sun per year. Winters are short and mild, and are followed by delightfully warm and long summers.
