This is just a portion of the opening ceremony for the creation of a sand mandala at the Kansas City Missouri Public Library. Tibetan Buddhist monks from the Drepung Gomang Monestary (http://www.gomang.org) are touring, and are currently visiting the Kansas City area, sponsered by donations, and the Rime Buddhist Center. This will also benefit the Harvester's Community Food Network.
There are going to be activities from now through around April 14th, and they will be working on the sand mandala weekdays now through the closing ceremonies on Saturday April 4th at 2pm.
If you're curious about the creation of sand mandala's, which are 3d representations of the universe, created by individual grains of colored sand, I highly recommend Werner Herzog's documentary, "The Wheel Of Time".
