A webinar with Dr. Catherine Kerr
Department of Family Medicine at the Warren Alpert School of Medicine
and Brown Contemplative Studies Initiative, Brown University
Wednesday, March 21, 2012
Somatic Attention can be a foundational practice for educators. Empathy, "gut sense," and improved attention skills are all enhanced by somatic attention practice, especially the somatic attentional components of mindfulness meditation. In this webinar, participants will learn about brain mechanisms underlying somatic attention practice. Participants will also engage in a few brief somatic attention exercises in order to directly "unlock" some key practice components related to basic brain processes.
Dr. Catherine Kerr, newly appointed by the Brown University Contemplative Studies Initiative and the Warren Alpert School of Medicine, began her appointment in the Department of Family Medicine in the summer of 2011 and taught “The Cognitive Neuroscience of Meditation” in the fall semester.
