'Pookolam' consists of two words; 'poov' meaning flower and 'kalam' means colour sketches on the ground. It is considered auspicious to decorate a home with a pookolam, (also known as 'Aththa-Poov') during the ten-day festival of Onam. The design of the Pookolam can be simple or intricate depending upon the creative abilities of the team creating them.
The short film ‘Pookolam’ is made using stop motion technique, which involves continuous clicking of pictures of the subject. Three DSLR cameras (Nikon D7000, Nikon D80, Canon 50D) were used for the shoot. Compositing was done using After Effects CS5. Final Cut Pro was used for editing and Pro Tools for the music editing.
