Thanks to Dan Chung, and Seppe Van Grieken of DSLR News Shooter for the original 5D footage.
'Shot with a production 5D mkIII in 1080/24P, 24-105mm f4L, 5000ISO , Standard picture style, regular Noise reduction.'
This video is just a quick grading test of low light footage from the new 5D MKIII.
First grade 'Fair to Middling' was more or less an attempt to balance the shot using the RGB parade. Fairly clean 35mm film grain has also been added.
Second grade 'The Maschwitz' is an homage to Stu Maschwitch. It's more crushed than the first grade and features more colour contrast. As with the first grade a fairly clean 35mm film grain has been applied.
Here's how Stu graded the same footage...
Third grade 'The Hipster' is a trendy, milky, low-con grade with very lifted shadows (with a lot of magenta added). It's supposed to look like an old photograph/film. A dirtier 35mm film grain has been applied here with 100% opacity.
Fourth grade 'The Manichean' is just a quick black and white look. Didn't adjust colour channels etc just balanced the lift, gamma and gain. The same dirtier 35mm film grain as the Hipster grade has been applied.
No noise reduction has been added in post to any of the grades.
Overall pretty impressive low light performance from the MKIII. Definite improvement over the first generation of Canon DSLRs.
Not sure if we'll buy one yet. Will wait and see what other cameras come out over the next few months.
