Fool's Paradise 2 is a sequel to a piece I created two years ago entitled, Fool's Paradise. The original inspiration for both of these videos is from the 1974 experimental film called "Haircut" by Lutz Mommartz. The film follows a star of a band as he walks down the stairs to get his haircut. His entourage follows behind. In the beginning, there is a poster on the door that says, "Fool's Paradise," which is the name of the band. Fool's paradise means false hope. The idea of paradise is ridiculous to me. The extravagance and glamorous life of stars can be just as much fun, when we create it with our friends. I took the characters, the star, the hairdresser, the musician, the cleaner and worked them into my own happening. The actresses and actors in this film were ask to wear 1940's clothes. Although, the styles might not be historically accurate, styles remain the same with bits of change anyway. Kat Drury told me that this piece reminded her of the different social roles we play such as the leader of the group, and the cleaner who picks up the pieces after everyone has left, etc. I couldn't agree more. Fools 2 is a microcosm for the way we live.
