In His Footsteps follows one mother’s journey to find meaning in life after she lost her only child. Shelley had Shaka when she was 19 years old and he passed away at age 32. Then, 10 months later, she lost the business she founded and where they had worked together.
This feature-length documentary is a chronicle of her emotional voyage goes from hopelessness to resilience. It taps into a profoundly universal problem of human experience: how we cope with loss. We see the practical steps she took to find meaning in life once again. We see how she set up a pop-up restaurant in her house and took it around the world, from London to Berlin, New York, Los Angeles and Silicon Valley. In doing so, she traced her son's steps in these cities where he was an actor, writer and chef. It is a story about the transformative power of optimism and action. It is, ultimately, a story about hope.
