Lessons for Week 8 +9: How does media sell "COOL" to youth?
We'll be deconstructing (a fancy word for: picking apart) media messages in commercials and creating your own video response!
BEFORE SATURDAY'S CLASS:
First, click on the link http://youtube.com/watch?v=XCDNaP11hwM & watch a Pepsi commercial I found on You Tube. It's my source of inspiration for this lesson plan.
Then watch MY video response to the commercial: vimeo.com/3976069
Think about:How am I commenting on the original PEPSI commercial? Who is my intended audience? What is MY message? What am I saying about Pepsi? What effect does the original commercial's music compared to the music I selected?
HOMEWORK FOR THIS SATURDAY:
Find a commercial (multiple commercials from ONE brand would work well too!) online that interests you (research at YouTube.com or other video websites.) Remember to the website address(es) to class on Saturday!
For Saturday's class, think about:
What message does it send?
Why does it interest you?
Does it make you want to purchase their product?
Who is the commercials' targeted audience? How do you know?
Why is knowing who your audience is important when making a video?
What would your video say about the commercial you selected?
Who is your intended audience?
Are you embracing, rejecting or making a satire of the commercial?
Will you use clips from the commercial in your video response?
Do you want to use music in your video? Bring in CDs of songs you might like to use for your own video response.
