Postpanic's executive Producer Jules Tervoort approached us with this stunning 3D projection project: For the launch of a new Manpower Group company, Experis, on April, 1st 2012, we created a four minute visual ride through the story of "The Human Age" - the aptly titled primary focus of the new Experis recruitment brand.
The cylindric "Gashouder" (a steel gas tank built in 1902 which can extend to a height of 40m) situated in Amsterdam's Westergasfabriek built a stunning historical setting for this ambitious project.
Calling upon Experis and Manpower’s core belief in inspiration and creative focus in the workplace of the future, our mission was to create a unique piece of visual art not only to act as a distinctive launch moment for the brand in the Netherlands but also for the enjoyment of art lovers and local residents in the area.
Based on the given cylindrical shape of the building we developed a script based on a book that opens up and reveals 12 chapters. These chapters are visual interpretations of very different aspects of human culture, science, economy, art and technology – all leading to the Human Age.
This was a great project for us: From the client's site creative freedom was given to achieve something highly ambitious, Postpanic organized the tight production schedule smoothly and supported us, our team bravely designed and animated four minutes within 3 weeks, and composer Guy Amitai at Amsterdam’s Massive Music provided the dramatic soundtrack which accompanied the final visual experience.
From a technical point of view this monster of a building required its counterpart in digital measures as well – so we had to design our animations at a resolution of 4k. Four huge beamers were used to project the image on the metallic surface of the tank.
