Development and implementation of personalized medicine in cancer and other diseases requires pre-existing biobanks with samples and long-term clinical follow-up data. Availability of high-class patient samples and associated clinical data enable researchers to identify, test and validate new diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers. This emerging need for systematic biobanking creates ever higher demands for the sample and data processing and storage quality and safety.
Tekes founded Helsinki Urological Biobank (HUB) is a joint project undertaking of FIMM and Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa (HUS). HUB is a regional development project of diagnostic and treatment of urological cancers in the area of HUS. Within HUB, Peijas and Meilahti Hospitals are the main clinical centers. FIMM and HUSLAB are responsible for sample logistics, processing and storing.
