Development and implementation of personalized medicine in cancer and other diseases requires pre-existing biobanks with samples and long-term clinical follow-up data. Availability of high-class patient samples and associated clinical data enable researchers to identify, test and validate new diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers. This emerging need for systematic biobanking creates ever higher demands for the sample and data processing and storage quality and safety.
The principal aim of this project is to establish a framework and infrastructure for the systematic collection of biological patient samples and related clinical data in a format that is readily accessible for both clinicians and researchers. These objectives will be tested in a pilot project on acute monocytic leukemia.
