The film of To Kill A Mockingbird turns 50 this year. The President introduces the film for a special screening tonight. Harper Lee, the book’s reclusive author ,says she is proud the film will be screened at the White House.

“I’m deeply honored that President Obama will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ by introducing it to a national audience,” Lee said in a statement. “I believe it remains the best translation of a book to film ever made, and I’m proud to know that Gregory Peck’s portrayal of Atticus Finch lives on – in a world that needs him now more than ever.”

In this clip of Scout walking the enigmatic Book back to his house, one sees the masterful touch of the words from the novel filtered through the artistry of Horton Foote, the screen adapter, as well as the haunting score of childhood by Elmer Bernstein.

Teaching Point: As Christians, we are to think on what it would be like to walk in others' shoes in order to gain understanding, and treat others as created in the image of God.
