USS Aaron Ward (DD-483) was a Gleaves-class destroyer.
On April 7 1943 she was taken by surprise while manoeuvring into position to fire on enemy aircraft over Savo Island. Three Japanese bombers came out of the sun. Their bombs breaching her hull and flooding the boiler room.
Her final resting place is in 70m of water just off Tinete Point.
