Dig past the cheap Chinese imports and tacky slogan t-shirts found in the homogenised surf stores around the UK and you'll find a group of like minded people, who by their very existence and way of life, create surf culture. This surf culture is a very different and much more wholesome creature, quite unlike the manufactured lifestyle promoted through the glossy magazines by the surf industry ad men.
These exhibitions, for me, are about the curation of interesting and relevant art by artists and artisans inspired by our surf culture. Giving artists that are inspired by the ocean a new platform in which to present their work.
Karl Mackie is the first to exhibit under this ideology. This sound-slide shows Karl setting up for the exhibition and talking about the inspiration behind his work.
