Not content in turning around an animated short in a day, we were set the challange of creating one during a 10 minute presentation!
On 11th April, the team headed down to ‘Digibury’; a digital-creative meet-up event held at the The Farmhouse, Canterbury every month. The presentation was titled “Plasticine vs Pixels”; demonstrating how we combine hand made plasticine stop motion animation with digital technolgy to create creative online content. Dan Richards, scultpted and animated a model of dancing ‘Disco’ Simon, the Digibury host, while telling the crowd about the history of plasticine and how animation can be a great tool to communicating a company’s message. Ezra then took the footage into After Effects and keyed out the green screen using keylight. He then dropped in a disco scene for a background and added a disco ball graphic. Using Video Copilots Optical Flares plugin he created some disco lights and lens flares. He looped together the footage of Simon dancing, increasing the speed of the animation, until he exploded! Ezra used some pre-keyed footage of an explosion from Video Copilots Action Essential DVD.
You can see the animation made in 10 minutes (thats got to be an animation record!!) at the top of the page. And we’re always up for a challange – so if you’re interested in inviting the Animate & Create team to an event, gig or presentation, then give us a shout and we can come and do some live animation for you.
