With "La vena del corazón", aorta, the indigenous people of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mark a line, that runs through the region of their ancestors. This line restricts the land, which is holy for these tribes and goes from the Caribbean Sea up to the mountains of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and is now beeing destroyed by megaprojects.
When you cut someone`s aorta you will die, says an indigenous of the tribe Wiwa in an interview. Only when the "vena del corazón" beats our surviving will be protected.
The film was made in 2007 after an invitation from an authority of the Arhuaco tribe from the sierra. The filmteam spent some time with one Arhuaco family and travelled to Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, to talk to representatives of indigenous people. Nowadays this landscape is threatened by the completion of the huge dam, that will destroy the nature more and more and drive away the people who live there.
