Somniferous Experiments is a series of photographs documenting experiments to grow slime molds (single cell, multi-nuclei organism) inside glass flasks of 100-1000ml, observing the self-organisation and pattern formation of Physarum polycephalum.
In TEST SETUPS the Influence of herbal and psychoactive substances on pattern formation was investigated. This is a reference or reenactment of the experiment by the German pharmacologist Peter Witt from the late 1940s (after a initial study by biologist Hans Peters). He investigated the influence of drugs on the production of spider webs.

Substances tested:
#1 physarum polycephalum and oat flakes
#2 physarum polycephalum growing under red light
#3 physarum polycephalum and saccharose
#4 physarum polycephalum and tobacco
#5 physarum polycephalum and cannabis
#6 physarum polycephalum and St. Johns wort
#7 physarum polycephalum and sertraline hydrochloride
#8 physarum polycephalum and valerian
