GIRLSTORIES is an experimental film written by integrating American Sign Language, donated manuscript diaries, lecture notes and personal facsimile papers into a narrative. The film studies diffusion of State funding for creative arts education nationwide.
Shooting nonactors exclusively, Huertas (aka Jane Public) constructed his narrative with the rigor of Straub-Huilet, telegraphing expression through meticulous, nonidentificatory speech and onscreen closed-captioned text with a highly stylized faux trilogy storyline of mental health pathologies, sound light and third-party dialogues of "consciousness." (interpretations of a quasi-personal or collective identity.)
