Selma Rubin. An Active Life. An Activist Life. CEC Environmental Hero Award version. This short film was produced by Susan Epstein, David Cowan, and Jon Zuber to inspire youth to engage community organizations in an effort to keep Santa Barbara's environmental ethic secure. The film features short segments interviews and quotes that will be part of a documentary feature honoring the life and work of a Santa Barbara legend. Selma Rubin recently passed away, weeks shy of her 97th birthday. A two minute version of the film premiered on April 6, 2012 at the Green Shorts Film Festival which was held at the historic Lobero Theatre in downtown Santa Barbara.
CEC's 2012 Environmental Hero Award is being given posthumously to Selma Rubin. Selma was a true community hero in Santa Barbara, helping found more than 42 grass roots organizations, the Community Environmental Council among them.
Selma's motto was 'stay active' and she embodied that by serving on several local boards well into her 90's. She was an inspiration, a powerful force, and a dear friend. She will be greatly missed but her legacy will live on.
Don't miss the Environmental Hero Award presentation on Sunday, April 22 at 1:30pm on the Main Stage. Also, bring your photos of Selma to post on the "Selma Wall" at the festival.
