This video series aims to call attention to the injustice of racially motivated violence and murder in America. We recognize these innocent young men of African descent who, because of racial profiling, had their lives taken away prematurely. By pairing video portraits of young men and boys with Mumia Abu Jamal’s poignant essays about specific and tragic accounts of murder, the viewer is forced to confront notions of race, violence, and discrimination. As Mumia cleverly stated, Oscar Grant is you and Trayvon Martin is everybody’s son. All of these incidents could have involved any one of our brothers, sons, fathers, uncles, or cousins. The viewer should take ownership when staring into the eyes of the subjects. As a nation, we must confront this issue and demand justice to ensure that Trayvon’s, Oscar’s, and Sean’s death were not in vain.
