High altitudes, steep terraces and friendship-based collaboration are important ingredients for ROI’s excellent olive oil. Situated in the Argetina Valley in the San Remo hinterland, the Olio Roi company is run by the Boeri family in the forth generation.
After Giuseppe Boeri started to rent the communal olive mill in 1900 and the following generations constructed and enlarged the family olive mill, the young Franco Boeri came on the scene with a new idea:
Instead of selling their high quality olive oil to larger merchants and distributors as it was common in the past, he wanted to bottle their olive oil under their own label. Even though his father called him a mad man, Franco convinced him to provide some start-up capital – under the condition that if the money was spent without success, Franco would have to return to the old sales-model. He never had to.
Through a network of friends, Franco managed to sell ROI olive oil as one of the first high quality olive oils abroad.
Today Olio ROI can be found in the best restaurants and delicatessen shops around the globe.
The deep connection of the Boeri’s with their territory and hometown Badalucco can easily be observed during the olive harvest, when their olive mill turns into a social meeting point: Fresh bread and wine are always provided to taste and discuss this year’s harvest.
