Analysing high-volume real-time data streams as they occur in social media analysis (for example, streams of Twitter messages) poses special challenges. We will report on our experiences at TWIMPACT with current approaches to scalability including NoSQL, stream processing, and stream mining and highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the individual approaches.
