CHÍA (Lucía Walter) is a Graphic Designer and Illustrator living and working in Berlin. Born in the green coast of Galicia, Spain, she decided to move to Barcelona where she got her B.A. in Fine Arts by the University of Barcelona. Her interest for Typography and Graphic Design took her to London, where she attended a Master in Communication Design at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design between 2008 and 2010. She specialised in Typography and Editorial Design, her two favourite branches of Graphic Design.
After working as a designer, she started missing her past as a painter and draftswoman and decided to develop a more artistic and hand-made work that goes from very detailed black and white illustrations, to wood carving, colourful and explosive watercolours or illustrated typography and lettering.
She combines all or some of her passions in each piece that she creates; as to say: linear illustration, lettering, realistic drawing, abstract painting and animal and human portraits. She has also started working as a mural painter and grabs a couple of spray cans and acrylic markers from time to time.
Nowadays, she is available as a freelance designer and illustrator and spends her time collaborating with agencies and working for small clients, as well as exploring and experimenting new creative fields and organizing exhibitions here and there.
You can see some of her latest non-commercial work at her website, which she has turned into a creative space called “Day2Day”; a place where she plays and develops her ideas, uploading the results of her experiments every two days.
CHÍA will also be having a Solo Exhibition at Idrawalot Gallery & Showroom on Thursday, August 2nd.
