i traveled to the Nirox Foundation in South Africa to work on the audio for Nothing Is Set In Stone, a musical sculpture that will be installed at Fairlop Waters in London from June 21st to September 9th 2012. During my residency i recorded with members of the University of Johannesburg choir.
It is traditional for artists to visit Nirox to leave a piece of work behind. i was inspired to create a small stone piece for the sculpture park. I called this 'the silent song', it contains the written score for Nothing Is Set In Stone and was created with quartz and sandstone that i found in the local area.
I like to think of 'the silent song' as the 'little sister' to Nothing Is Set In Stone.
Nothing Is Set In Stone is presented by Oxford Contemporary Music and The Mayor Of London in partnership with the Natural History Museum, the Exhibition Road Cultural Group, Fairlop Waters Country Park and Vision Redbridge Culture and Leisure, Overcraft and Mira Calix.
