Breckenridge Colorado time lapse taken from way above 7-11. This is my first attempt with the home built linear rail out in the woods running off batteries.
The rail is constructed from PVC. Its controlled with an Arduino Uno. For UI it has a 9 segment led display ran off a shift register that displays a 1-9 depending on the angle of a potentiometer. Limit switches are performed by a reed switch and magnets that side anywhere on the rail.
A Nikon D5100 is activated by a IR led, this eliminates the problem of taking only 999 photo's and makes sure the camera isn't moving while its taking a photo. The movement is ran from a DC motor with a 100:1 gear ratio. It simply reels in a string fixed to whatever end of the rail your moving towards. I took apart a broken continuous rotation servo and used it's electronic control portion to operate the motor. This gives the rig a little potentiometer to finely control the speed and to reverse direction.
