ED CARPENTER, PUBLIC ARTIST
Artist Ed Carpenter has been selected for a grand commission for Wichita's new airport. Carpenter has a global practice with works at Boeing in Seattle and Rockefeller Center in New York as well as in such far-flung sites as Ireland and China. His architectural sculpture often incorporates light and regularly integrates within the infrastructure of towers, gateways, bridges or airports. Carpenter talked about his design priorities and artistic practice. He also gave a sneak peek of the exquisite work for our future airport. Based in Portland, Oregon, this artist is internationally regarded and the past recipient of two National Endowment for the Arts fellowships.
Carpenter spoke during the Ulrich Salon Circle event at Wichita State University's Marcus Welcome Center on Thursday, December 1, 2011.
