We're a team of 23 passionate student teachers from Simon Fraser University (SFU) in British Columbia, Canada. As part of our training and to give back to another community in our province, we at SEEDs (Sustainability Education in an Environment of Diversity) have elected to participate in a service learning project in August 2012.
This video was created to help our fundraising efforts on Indie GoGo. You can access that page here:
With the funds we raise, we will travel to B.C.'s Haida Gwaii (former Queen Charlotte Islands) to collaborate with the Haida Nation. Together, we will produce place-based curriculum for use in programs designed for aboriginal and at-risk youth. With your help, we will be able to continue developing a working relationship with one of B.C.'s more remote communities and will be honouring our belief that culturally diverse and regionally-specific education is important for building up students' commitment to their local environments, industries, and communities.
