From recent inspiration from the film The Five Obstructions, with the help of a friend I set out to push the limits of my sound designing abilities. The idea behind this project is that I first wiped the sound from a trailer to a movie I knew nothing about, and sound designed it as I saw fit to reinforce themes or what I felt the story could be. After doing this, I showed it to my good friend who then made restrictions for me and I was to sound design it again. The restrictions were based on the idea of putting me under pressure, disabling certain tools I heavily rely on, and forcing me to deal with elements I avoided. After I designed it the second time, even more difficult restraints were applied. Many of these new restraints were aimed at dealing with how I tried to wriggle around the last few restraints. In addition, the new rules forced me to get somewhat personal with my sound design. I hope you find this interesting. It was an interesting experience embracing new elements, conveying themes in abstract ways, and making compromises.
